A Roanoke Rapids bank robbery suspect is in more trouble today after he allegedly assaulted another inmate in the Halifax County Jail.
Lieutenant Bobby Martin of the sheriff’s office said it was unclear what caused Herbert Warren Jr., 26, and several other inmates to allegedly assault the man today.
Warren, who is in jail on $800,000 for the robberies of First Citizens and New Republic last year, was charged with assault and battery.
The alleged assault, a fistfight, left the unnamed inmate with bumps, bruises and abrasions, Martin said.
Warren was immediately identified by the victim and more charges could be filed.
The fight increased Warren’s bond by $1,000 and he has a November 24 court date. The victim was treated and released at Halifax Regional Medical Center.
Warren was arrested in December in Emporia and was originally jailed on $1 million bond.
