A woman whose children were allegedly playing in the middle of Bolling Road during a downpour has been charged with two counts of child neglect.
Jamie Lynn Landen, 25, of Roanoke Rapids, was charged after an investigation where officers learned from motorists her 2 and 3-year-old children were seen playing in the street as traffic whizzed by, Deputy Chief Adam Bondarek of the Roanoke Rapids Police Department said.
Officers received the call around 9:30 a.m. A person Bondarek described as a Good Samaritan stopped and took the children to a nearby convenience store.
Bondarek said the children had been in the rain long enough to be soaked.
Subsequent investigation led officers to go to Landen’s house on Miles Street where she was asleep in the living room with a male companion. Bondarek said Landen assumed her children were still in the house.
She was jailed on $5,000 bond and has an October 29 court date.
