WITN reports gang violence could be the reason three college students, including at least one from Roanoke Rapids, wound up in the hospital over the weekend connected to two brutal attacks in Downtown Greenville.
The report names Seth Wright of Roanoke Rapids as one of the people. Another victim was reportedly from Roanoke Rapids but that could not be confirmed today.
Meanwhile, WNCT reports Greenville police say they are investigating two assaults that happened in the same area and around the same time, in downtown Greenville early Saturday morning.
Police say the first happened around 2 a.m. in the parking lot of Sixth Street and Evans.They say officers were first dispatched to a report of an assault that had occurred in the downtown area.T
They say contact was made with two victims at the hospital. The male victims said that they were jumped by several black males and suffered injuries due to the assault that were not life threatening.
The investigation for that assault is still ongoing.
Police say the second assault happened in the same area around 2:18 a.m., also on Saturday.
They say officers found a male victim lying on the ground being assaulted by three to four black male suspects. The suspects fled when they saw officers approaching, but one was apprehended and charged for the assault.
The victim was transported to the hospital with non life threatening injuries.
Dominic Green, 20, was charged with assault inflicting serious bodily injury and received a $5,000 bond. He has since been released.
