The Shrine Bowl rosters were released on Thursday and one area player, Kareem Martin of Roanoke Rapids High School, was selected to the team.

The Shrine Bowl is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Dec. 19 at Wofford College. South Carolina has won two straight Shrine Bowl games, including last year's 24-16 victory. The last North Carolina win was in 2006 when the Tarheels defeated the Sandlappers, 23-16. South Carolina holds the all-time advantage over North Carolina with a record of 40-28-4.

Martin is playing multiple roles for his Roanoke Rapids team, according to a report by the website Inside Carolina.

In a recent game the 6-foot-6, 250-pound senior played defensive end, defensive tackle, tight end and fullback in goal-line situations. Martin contributed to three of five turnovers by the opposing team, forcing two fumbles, recovering one and tipping a pass that was intercepted by a teammate.
