The suspect in an early morning murder on Straight Road surrendered to deputies of the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff Wes Tripp said he received notification of the surrender of Julius Dominic “Juju” Sledge around 12:30 this afternoon.

Sledge, 25, of Roanoke Rapids, was wanted in the shooting death of 23-year-old Rashad Evans of Littleton.

Tripp could not say with certainty what prompted Sledge to surrender.

Bond or a first court appearance date were not immediately available.

The sheriff said earlier today the victim and suspect were at a birthday party when they apparently got into a dispute which led to the shooting.

The sheriff’s office received the call of the shooting shortly after 12:15 this morning.

Evans was transported for medical treatment but died from an apparent gunshot wound.

Detectives obtained warrants on Sledge for murder.
