The Halifax County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a Friday night armed robbery in which the clerk was stabbed.

Sheriff Wes Tripp said this morning the Information Grocery clerk did fire shots at the suspect but it was not immediately clear whether the suspect was struck from the gunfire.

The robbery occurred between between 8 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the store, which is located at the intersection of Thelma Road and Highway 158.

Items of value were taken in the robbery, Tripp said.

The suspect fled the store on Thelma Road and was last seen headed towards Roanoke Rapids.

Tripp said the clerk was OK. No further information was immediately available and detectives continue to investigate.
