A Roanoke Rapids area man was charged with three counts of obtaining property by false after the victim alleged he could not locate his car or the man he paid to do work on the vehicle.

Detective Doug Pilgreen of the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office said on May 6 a report was filed where the victim alleged that between September 2007 and April 2009 he carried a vehicle to Walter Harvey Jr. to have it painted and have some mechanical work done. He paid in advance.

The victim alleges he could not locate his vehicle or Harvey. The investigation resulted in the arrest of Harvey, with assistance from Deputy Travis Clark, at his shop Tuesday. Harvey, 50, was jailed on $5,000 bond and has a June 23 court date.
