The Greensboro Police Department is searching for a Weldon man who was allegedly involved in a May 7 hit-and-run.

According to warrants, Michael Bernard Ponton Jr. faces charges with hit-and-run — leaving the scene — and injury to personal property. Ponton lists an Elm Street address in Weldon.

The investigating GPD officer said Ponton failed to provide his name and other information after a collision in the eastbound lane of I-40. The crash resulted in damage to the right fender and bumper of the victim’s 2020 Cherokee.

The injury to personal property count stems from Ponton allegedly kicking the door of the Cherokee and puncturing its left front tire, which caused more than $200 in damages.

Court records show that the warrants have not yet been served. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact Greensboro/Guilford Crime Stoppers at 336-373-1000 or Halifax County Crimestoppers at 252-583-4444.
