An Enfield woman faces charges of human trafficking, kidnapping, and obtaining property by false pretenses in a case that goes back to March 2025.
Doris Bynum, 53, was named as a primary offender in a case which was referred to the HCSO by an out-of-state agency. At the time she was named in the case, she lived in Roanoke Rapids, but during the time of the alleged crimes, she lived in the Enfield area.
Major Anzell Harris said that after a lengthy investigation, which included multiple interviews and search warrants, Detective Sergeant C. Watkins obtained warrants and arrested Bynum on Monday.

The human trafficking warrant alleges that Bynum obtained, by any means, another person to be held in involuntary servitude, while the kidnapping warrant alleges she kidnapped a person under 16 by confining and restraining the victim for the purpose of causing serious bodily injury. The warrant says the victim was seriously injured.
The warrant for obtaining property by false pretenses alleges that Bynum obtained $21,422 by making the victim believe a false debt was real.
Bynum was scheduled for a first district court appearance today and remains in the Halifax County Detention Center.
The investigation continues, and anyone with information is encouraged to contact Watkins at 252-583-8201.
