The Halifax County Sheriff’s Office reported the following, according to Major Anzell M. Harris:

Fatal shooting

Detectives are seeking information following the fatal shooting of a 17-year-old male Monday evening around 8.

The shooting occurred on Highway 48 near Graham-Scott Road in the Roanoke Rapids area.

A preliminary investigation shows that two males were walking when a car stopped. An occupant exited the vehicle and spoke with them. Shots were later fired, striking the 17-year-old. He was transported to ECU North Hospital, where he died during surgery. The name of the deceased has not been released.

Harris said investigators want to speak with the person the 17-year-old was walking with, as well as anyone else who may have information about the case.

Detective Tim Byers said this morning that no vehicle description is currently available.

Trespassing call leads to drug charges

On Monday around 4:30 p.m., Community Action Team sergeants G. Martin and D. Harrison, along with canine officer Loki, were patrolling the area of Karen and North Penny streets after receiving a trespassing call from a landowner regarding two people living in a tent.

Officers encountered Lance Allen, 37, and Tina Clary-Allen, 46, both of Roanoke Rapids, at the tent. Allen had an outstanding warrant for arrest for larceny from the Roanoke Rapids Police Department.

Martin and Harrison observed evidence of narcotics and located a lottery ticket containing a white powder identified as fentanyl.

Lance Allen and Tina Clary-Allen were arrested and charged with felony possession of a schedule II controlled substance. Allen was also served with the larceny warrant.

According to court records, Allen has pending court dates for misdemeanor larceny, breaking and entering, larceny after breaking and entering, simple possession of schedule IV, misdemeanor conspiracy, habitual larceny, and possession of stolen property.

Lance Allen remained in the Halifax County Detention Center this morning. There was no incarceration record for Clary-Allen.

Both have May 28 district court dates.
