A Garysburg man is scheduled for a May 7 arraignment following his arrest on cocaine trafficking counts last week.
Another man was charged with marijuana possession following the execution of a search warrant on March 11, according to the Northampton County Sheriff’s Office.
The arrest of Carlton Mobley for cocaine trafficking and the arrest of Demonte Simmons were the result of a search warrant executed in the Garysburg area by the NCSO narcotics unit and the Down East Drug and Violent Crime Task Force, NCSO Chief Detective Ashley Collier said in a statement.

The search warrant was based on a two-month investigation into Mobley for the illegal sale of cocaine, Collier said. Agents seized 79 grams of suspected cocaine, 3.3 grams of suspected marijuana, a digital scale, and a Samsung phone, according to a summary of the search warrant. Simmons, according to the warrant, allegedly possessed 64.06 grams of marijuana.
Mobley, 40, and Simmons, 31, have been released from custody, according to court records. Simmons was released upon the condition that he not possess controlled substances.

Mobley was charged with one count of trafficking in cocaine, possession with intent to sell and deliver cocaine, maintaining a vehicle/dwelling/place for controlled substances, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Simmons was charged with possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana and possession of marijuana drug paraphernalia.
“The Northampton County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank the Down East Drug and Violent Crime Task Force and the Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives for their assistance in this investigation,” Sheriff Jack Smith said. “Our agency will continue to work with partner agencies to combat drugs and crimes in Northampton County.”
