The three winners in November’s Roanoke Rapids City Council race were administered the oath of office Tuesday by Halifax County Senior Resident Superior Court Brenda Branch.
Roanoke Rapids Mayor Emery Doughtie won a three-way race against Ephraim Brodsky and Jerry McDaniel. Incumbent District 2 Councilman Andy Jackson defeated former Councilman Wayne Smith. Incumbent Curt Strickland ran unopposed for his District 1 council seat.
In another matter, the council, on a motion by Rex Stainback, selected Sandra Bryant as mayor pro tem for another year. “Thank you, fellow council members, for your support for another year,” she said. “I appreciate it.”
