There is a chance for a wintry mix on Friday, but the National Weather Service in Raleigh says it is too early to lock in specific impacts.
The morning briefing today says that the snowfall potential is 1 inch or more, with the highest probabilities in the northwest portion of the state along the Virginia line, including a 43 percent chance in Mt. Airy and a 30 percent chance in Danville, Virginia.
The NWS forecast places the Roanoke Valley at a moderate to low risk for snowfall, at about 12 percent.
The forecast also predicts the potential for ice accumulation of 0.1 inches, with the highest risk centrally located around the Greensboro-Burlington area at 32 percent, Roxboro at 29 percent, and Winston-Salem at 24 percent.
There is about a 12 percent chance of ice accumulation in the Roanoke Valley.
The NWS advises that while these percentages indicate a potential for wintry mix, residents should pay close attention to forecast updates as the date gets closer to Friday.
