The arrest warrant for a man charged with obstruction of justice in the shooting deaths of two people Wednesday offers an explanation for how he came to be charged, according to eCourts records.

Roanoke Rapids Police Department Lieutenant Morgan Worrell filed the charge against 26-year-old Ju-Quan Letrae Rawles of Roanoke Rapids.

The warrant alleges that Rawles unlawfully and willfully obstructed justice by leaving the scene of the shooting, changing clothes, and concealing the weapon used.

The warrant does not provide further detail.

It does state that Rawles is scheduled for a district court appearance on September 3.

Thus far, Rawles has been the only person charged in the shooting deaths of Dasan Banks and Anthony Shearin at Presto in the 100 block of Julian R. Allsbrook Highway around 1 p.m.

In a statement late Wednesday night, Chief Lawrence Wiggins said Banks was found deceased outside the store. Shearin was found inside the store with gunshot wounds. He was initially taken to ECU North and then to Greenville for further treatment, but later died from his injuries.

The chief said in the statement that the department is thoroughly investigating the case and working to ensure all facts are established and supported by evidence before any additional actions are taken.
