An Enfield man was charged Thursday afternoon on two gun counts and a window tint violation by the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office Community Action Team.

Sergeant D. Harrison was on South McDaniel Street near Bell Street in Enfield around 3 p.m. when he stopped Joe Harper, 38, according to Major Anzell Harris.

Harper showed signs of nervousness and evasiveness when asked about firearms. This behavior, Harris said, led Harrison and Sergeant G. Martin to believe a crime was afoot. Community Action Team members performed a search of the vehicle and a firearm was located inside the center console.

Harper was taken into custody and charged with possession of a firearm by a felon, felony carrying a concealed gun, and a window tint violation.

Harper, according to eCourts records, had been charged in July of 2011 with conspiracy to possess stolen goods and took a plea on the count in June of 2013. He received five days in jail and 24 months of supervised probation.

He has a September 9 district court date.
