A Roanoke Rapids man was arrested and charged today in a March 30 shooting which left the victim still receiving medical treatment.

Denzel C. Ashe, who is scheduled for a January superior court appearance, was jailed without the opportunity for bond and has an April 24 district court date on a count of assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious bodily injury with intent to kill.

Major Anzell Harris of the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office said investigators and deputies developed the 25-year-old Ashe as a suspect in the shooting which occurred on Branch Avenue.

Detective T. Byers on Wednesday obtained a warrant for arrest on Ashe, who lives on Melody Lane.

In January he is scheduled to appear in superior court for charges of robbery with a dangerous weapon, conspiracy, discharging a weapon into an occupied dwelling/vehicle, intimidating a witness, and assault inflicting serious injury, according to the state court calendar.
