A Roanoke Rapids man with outstanding warrants for attempted murder and other charges from Edgecombe County was arrested and charged Wednesday following a traffic stop.
Major Anzell Harris of the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office said Community Action Team sergeants D. Harrison and G. Martin were in the area of Highway 158 and Airport Road when Harrison ran a check on a vehicle and learned the driver — Donald Williams Jr., 35 — had a suspended license.
Harrison attempted a stop but Williams continued driving before coming to a stop.
Harrison and Martin detained Williams and learned he had outstanding warrants for attempted first-degree murder, assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury, possession of a firearm by felon, break and enter to terrorize/injure, and four counts of discharging a weapon into an occupied dwelling/moving vehicle.
The warrants had been obtained in April of 2019 by the Pinetops Police Department after a crime on April 22 of that year. He had an outstanding Bertie County order for arrest for missing court in May of 2019 for driving charges.
Harrison cited Williams with a North Carolina Uniform Citation for failure to heed blue lights and sirens, driving while license revoked, and failing to secure a passenger.
Williams was arrested and served with the outstanding 2019 warrants and order for arrest. He received a $1 million bond with an April 2 court date for the Pinetops warrants and a $1,000 bond and April 23 court date for the Bertie County order for arrest.
