The Roanoke Rapids Yellow Jackets 11U Travel Baseball team placed 2nd in a USSSA baseball tournament in Richmond, VA this past Sunday.
The Jackets, who won their first game of the Spring season just last weekend, defeated the DeWitt Boarhogs 13-0 in game 1 and the TSI Titans 14-3 in game 2 to earn the #1 seed for the championship game against RBA South Blue Prep.
The Jackets fell just short losing their final game 11-12 and earning the Runner-Up award.
This team which is made up of the Roanoke Rapids 2017 10U All-stars was formed to give our local all-star team more opportunities to improve and grow as a group in preparation for future all-star events and eventually school baseball. They are traveling to compete against travel baseball organizations, many of which have been playing together for years. After a slow start in the fall the group recommitted for the spring by starting to practice in early January with weekly indoor practices, and all of the hard work is starting to pay off.
Roanoke Rapids will have the privilege of hosting the 2018 State All-stars at the end of June so please come out and support this team.
With regard to support, the team would like to thank those who have contributed in helping make this a possibility including MJ Price Construction, Reser’s Fine Foods, Sheriff Wes Tripp, and the Roanoke Rapids Youth Baseball Association.
