Halifax Academy had a special senior night.

The Halifax Academy Vikings girls soccer team secured a win in its opening round game of the NCISAA State 1A playoffs Saturday night on its home field 5-1.   They faced The Oakwood School from Greenville, NC.

The Lady Vikings started the scoring 2 minutes into the match with Abby George scoring on a cross from Jordan Jean.  Midway through the 1st half, George notched her second goal of the game with a 20 yard line drive from the right side.

Jordan Jean extended the lead to 3-0 in the 2nd half with a goal off of a rebound inside the penalty box.  Jean then added her second goal of the game with a penalty kick.  The Oakwood School was able to convert on a corner kick for their lone goal of the game.  Abby George then completed a hat trick with her 3rdgoal of the game off of a 30 yard direct kick to seal the game.

“This has been injury plagued year for our team, but we are beginning to heal up just at the right time with the playoffs in front of us” said Coach Tim George.  “Shay Edwards was able to really control the mid field today with her energy and aggressive play.   Kristan Garrett cleaned up everything in the back.”

This home game also served as senior night with Kristan Garrett, Jordan Jean and Anna Glover being honored before the game in front of the home crowd.

Halifax Academy’s record improves to 5-11-3.  The #5 ranked Vikings take on #4 Neuse Christian Academy Tuesday evening at a time and field yet to be determined in Raleigh, NC.
