Myrick School of Dance showed Richmond they have amazing feet and love to dance Myrick

School of Dance took 4 dance teams and 24 competition dance numbers to compete in Richmond Virginia in the Dance Theatre USA Dance Competition and had a great competition! Starting with our Junior Soloists: Toni Darden competed her Open number to “Work”, Cassidy Goff competed her Clogging solo to “Great balls of Fire”and MacKenzie Moody competed her clogging solo to “Blurred Lines” all won Platinum awards and Toni Darden finished 3rd overall in Junior Solo’s. SR Soloists Alexis Carter (Lyrical), Kailla Warren (Clogging), and Hannah Roberson (Lyrical) all earned Gold awards.

 

Smash” a JR Open Duet with Alexis Carter and Toni Darden earned Gold, “Secrets” a SR Duet with Ashleigh Fleming and Alexis Carter earned Gold, and a JR Hip Hop Duet to “Hey Lil Momma” with Nyasia Dawson and Alexis Carter also earned Gold. Toni Darden and Jessica Neville competed an Acrobatic routine to “Last Dance” earning Platinum, Megan Barrow, Mallory Barrow and Cassidy Goff competed a Hip Hop Trio to “Shawty Get Loose” and earned a platinum award, Lily Brewer and Jessica Neville competed a Clogging Duet to “Cup Song” and earned a Platinum award and Rachel and Sarah Rightmyer had a fantastic day competing a Clogging Duet to “Gone Too Long”, choreographed and learned in less than a week earned a Diamond Award and placed 3rd overall in the SR Duet/Trio category.

 

Congratulations to all of the Myrick School of Dance Solo, Duet, and Trio Dancers. The PeeWee and Mini Teams competed in Tap, jazz, Clogging, Lyrical, and Hip Hop. The PeeWee team, a group of 10 girls under the age of 7, Competed a Tap Number to “A day for the Cat in the Hat” and earned a platinum award and placed 1st place overall in the PeeWee division, their jazz dance “Surf Crazy” earned a gold award.

 

The Mini team, a group of 10 girls and 1 boy under the age of 11, competed their Jazz routine to “Beautiful Monsters” winning a gold award and also competed a lively Tap routine to “RT66” and earned a Platinum award. A combination of both PeeWee and Mini Dancers competed a Clogging Production to “Eye Own It” winning a Gold award and best costumes of the day. This group also competed a Lyrical Production to “It’s a Wonderful World” earning a Gold award and 3rd place overall and their Hip Hop Production of “Light Up” earned a Platinum Award.

 

Heather Merritt, owner and instructor at Myrick School of Dance couldn't be more proud of her younger teams. Competing for the first time each year is a big step and these girls/Boys all handled it very well and did a GREAT job! The JR/SR team dancers also had a great day! The JR Jazz dance to Heads Will Roll placed Gold as well as the SR Jazz to Summertime Sadness also earning Gold. The JR/SR production number to “Rain” earned Gold and the Hip Hop production to “Rock this Party” earned Gold and placed 2nd place overall.

 

The biggest winner of the day for Myrick School of Dance was a JR/SR Clogging Production to “White Wedding” and earned a Diamond Award, 1st Place Overall, and Best Choreography of the Day. “It was a Great Day of Dance” States Heather Merritt, “Hard Work and Dedication are paying off. We will now work on perfecting our dances and preparing for our next competition in April”.

 

 

Myrick School of Dance is now holding Open Registration for next Dance year. The annual recital will be held on May 3rd at THE CENTRE at HCC and welcomes anyone interested in being a dancer at Myrick School of Dance to attend the recital and see all the MSOD has to offer.
