Clay new to GCP but not the game

Thirty three year old Roanoke rapids native Daniel Clay, married father of two has been named as Gaston College Prep. middle school's new head softball coach. Clay is a full time employed with the Department of Public Safety Adult Corrections as a correctional officer at Caledonia Correctional Institution. Clay's work has stepped up and working with him with his schedule around the ball season. Clay also is the Den leader of Den 10 with Pack 238 with the cub scouts.

 

Clay has been coaching for the last 9 years in softball and baseball, and coached in a church flag tag football last year for the first time.

 

Clay started playing baseball when he was 4 and didn't stop til he was 18. He played for Chaloner, then for Roanoke Rapids High for 4 years.

 

His love of the game and love of teaching kids how to play the game of softball and baseball makes his choice as GCP's Head coach a great asset said David Cieslinski GCP's athletic director.

 

Clay credits his dad for all the hours he spent on the ball field coaching him and his brother. "I just want to give back to the community, try to give these kids the same chance I did growing up playing" stated Clay.

 

"I am looking forward to coaching at GCP, its an awesome school" he added.
