City Council Work Session
Tuesday, April 6, 2021 at 5:30 p.m. at the Lloyd Andrews City Meeting Hall.

EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES:
The City of Roanoke Rapids is now accepting applications for the following position:
Firefighter (Applicant Pool)
Applications being accepted to establish an eligibility list (Applicant Pool) from which periodic selections will be made as positions become available.
Desired Qualifications:
* Must have High School Diploma or GED
* Preferred NC Firefighter II (but not required)
* Must be able to obtain a North Carolina or Virginia Class B Driver’ s License within 90 days of employment.
* Must have WorkKeys Silver Certificate (or higher) (Contact Ellen Grant at Halifax Community College for more information (252) 536-6393)
* Must be of good character and be in good physical condition.
* Background check and drug test required.
Completed Firefighter application packet must be submitted to Kathy Kearney – Human Resources Manager no later than Friday – April 9, 2021
Property Maintenance Wkr I (Parks & Recreation)
An employee in this class performs a variety of building, facility, and equipment maintenance and repair activities including plumbing, electrical, carpentry and masonry. Must have a valid NC Driver’s License and experience in maintenance.
Equipment Mechanic
An employee in this position serves as a skilled mechanic in the garage.
This employee performs responsible and specialized skilled mechanical work on a variety of automotive, construction and specialized equipment which will include, but not limited to, mechanical work repairing gasoline and diesel motors and engines, and performing preventative maintenance, particularly on heavy equipment.
Essential Duties & Tasks
Performs responsible and specialized skilled mechanical work on a variety of automotive, construction and specialized equipment.
Mechanical work repairing gasoline and diesel motors and engines.
Performs preventative maintenance, particularly on heavy equipment.
Work requires operation of various test equipment and hand tools in order to support the work in both inside and outside environments.
Minimum Qualifications
Must be a high school graduate supplemented by course work in repair and maintenance of heavy equipment and engines.
Must have considerable experience in automotive and heavy equipment repair.
Background check and drug screen required.

BRIEFS
MUNICIPAL OFFICES CLOSED/TRASH COLLECTION: Municipal Offices will be closed on Friday, April 2, 2021 in observance of Good Friday. Friday’s trash route will be collected on Wednesday, March 31st.
HYDRANT TESTING: The Roanoke Rapids Fire Department began their annual hydrant testing on Monday, March 22, 2021 and will continue up to May 31, 2021. Please check your tap water for discoloration before drinking, bathing or washing clothes. If your water is discolored, turn the cold water tap on until the water runs clear. We hope to finish the hydrant testing as soon as possible. We apologize for any inconvenience that this may cause.
