The emerald ash borer was found in Halifax County for the first time, making it the 36th county within the state where this invasive insect has been detected.  

North Carolina Forest Service rangers and the state parks fire service began a controlled burn at Medoc Mountain State Park today as part of a wildlife management and hazard reduction operation.

Halifax County is set to become a corridor for the migrating monarch butterfly, of which four generations make a trek from Mexico to Canada, the fourth generation migrating back to Mexico to renew the cycle.
