With more than eight months of planning completed, Roanoke Rapids is now ready to roll out the red carpet to 13 teams as the U-9 Cal Ripken Southeast Regional Baseball Tournament gets under way at Ledgerwood Field next week.
The new playground equipment at Ledgerwood Field is all based on movement, Roanoke Rapids Parks and Recreation Director John Simeon said today before a brief ceremony that dedicated the renovations and opened up Family Fun Day.
Ledgerwood Field playground equipment that will be acquired through an $83,000 grant from the Kate B. Reynolds Foundation will have a higher aim than just helping youngsters amuse themselves — it will be part of an overall program to help them become healthier.
