Joyner Joyner Northampton County Sheriff's Office

A Woodland police officer is being credited with stopping a potential arson when she arrived on the scene of a disturbance Tuesday morning.

Officer Clarice Hagborne was the first to arrive on Indian Trail in Woodland after a call was dispatched that Tamona Shana Joyner, 20, was reportedly pouring gas and threatening to set a residence on fire.

Captain Chuck Hasty of the sheriff's office said Joyner had apparently been asked to leave the residence by the person who called 911.

The dispute led to Joyner allegedly pouring gas on and around the residence. When Hagborne arrived Joyner dropped the can and attempted to flee. Hagborne detained Joyner until Sergeant Jimmy Pair arrived.

Pair charged Joyner with attempted first-degree arson as people were inside the residence when Joyner allegedly began pouring gasoline.

The Woodland Volunteer Fire Department sprayed the residence and the ground.

“When there is a domestic disturbance tempers can flare and people make the wrong choices on how to handle them.,” Sheriff Jack Smith said in a statement. “I want thank Officer Hagborne for responding so quickly to assist us to diffuse this incident. If she had not responded so quickly it could have turned bad very quick. I would like to thank the Woodland Fire Department for assisting us in this incident also.”

Joyner was jailed on $51,000 bond and has a first appearance in court Thursday.

Tractor larceny

The sheriff's office is investigating the larceny of 8235 John Deere Tractor and spray attachment Tuesday.

Around 1 a.m. Lieutenant David Twine responded to a call on Barrett Cabin Road in the Murfreesboro area when he came across the tractor in the middle of the road running with no one around it.

Twine learned that it was parked in a field the afternoon before.

The tractor had no damage to it and the investigation is ongoing.
