A Roanoke Rapids man who fled from the passenger seat of a vehicle which was stopped Thursday night faces drug and other charges after he was taken into custody.
According to the state court calendar, Javon Antonio Sesson, 29, was already scheduled to appear in Halifax County District Court on June 3 for a charge of possession of a weapon by a felon.
Around 7:45 p.m. Captain Scott Hall said Halifax County Sheriff’s Office Deputy D. Bybee conducted an enforcement stop on a vehicle in the area of Julian R. Allsbrook Highway near Old Farm Road for a registration violation.
Sesson fled the vehicle and after a brief foot pursuit was apprehended in the Sheetz parking lot.
Hall said Sesson was in possession of cocaine, drug paraphernalia, marijuana, and a handgun magazine. He said Sesson admitted he discarded a firearm before being apprehended. The weapon was not immediately located.
He faces charges of resist, obstruct, or delay, possession of cocaine, possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession of marijuana.
He remains in the Halifax County Detention Center as of this report and has a May 23 district court date for the charges lodged Thursday.
