Sykes enters Halifax commissioners race

Another candidate entered his name into the ring for the Halifax County Board of Commissioners race.

O.D. Sykes of Weldon will run for one of three at-large seats in the May 6 primary.

Sykes, who filed as a Democrat, joins incumbents Rives Manning and Vernon Bryant in the race.

Incumbent Chairman James Pierce has not yet filed.

In other primary filings news, Tyree Davis filed as a Democrat to run against incumbent Halifax County Sheriff West Tripp. Weldon Police Chief Mark Macon, who has signs up, has not yet filed. Those three will face competition from James Warren, who has filed as a Republican.

Susie Lynch Evans, an incumbent on the Halifax County Board of Education, has filed.
