Kelly Williams named the ODAC Rookie of the Year

FOREST, Va. – Freshman Kelly Williams (Garysburg, N.C./ Halifax Academy) was named the ODAC Rookie of the Year and selected to the First Team All-ODAC on Thursday night.

Junior Amber Lee (Rockville, Va./ Patrick Henry) joins Williams by being named to the Third Team All-ODAC. The All-ODAC teams are nominated and voted on by the ODAC coaches.

Williams has scored 481 points this season, shooting 60.7 percent from the floor with 184 field goals made. She has grabbed 332 rebounds, which is currently second highest in R-MC history. Only second behind Bekkie Siebel (’90-’91) who had 347.

Kelly has been named ODAC POTW four times her rookie year, as well as the USBWA DIII National Player of the Week. She had a scoring best against Hollins with 30 points. Her best rebounding game came against Roanoke, where she had 20 boards. Williams currently has 21 double-doubles in 26 games played, the highest in the ODAC. She has 64 blocks this season, which is six blocks short of R-MC all-time block top 10.

Currently, Willliams leads the league in rebounds per game (12.8), as well as total rebounds (332), offensive rebounds (130), defensive rebounds (202), field goal percentage (60.7%) and points per 40 minutes (26.6). She is fourth in the ODAC in points per game with 18.5.

Lee is averaging 11.1 points per game and 6.9 rebounds per game. She had a season high 22 points against Virginia Wesleyan. She also recorded six blocks against W&L and had a season best 15 rebounds twice, at Va. Wesleyan and EMU. Lee has 37 blocks for the season.

Lee has recorded four double-doubles this season. She has scored double-digit points in 14 games this season, shooting 47% from the field making 113 field goals.

R-MC will play in the ODAC Quarterfinals on Friday, February 24th at 3 p.m. #5 R-MC takes on #4 EMU at the Salem Civic Center.
