Post game comments from Roanoke Rapids head coach Jim Whitmire, "The Lady Yellow Jackets have taken the top spot in the NCC 2A conference race. After a very rough start to the 2016-17 campaign, we have "righted the ship".  There were multiple injuries, the cancellation of the JV season, rescheduled games and the late start due to the great run of the football team.   But, all came together and we are first place for the first time in MANY years.    This year's team has great senior leadership in Erica Whitmire, Alizae Neville, Deasia Thomas, Haley Farrow and, new comer, Kayla Hamlin.   It has taken more time for this team to gel and to get the chemistry that makes all teams successful.   We have had great guard play all year from Michelle Stewart and Anna Vann.   Strong post play from our "twin towers" Abbi Carpenter and Taylor Medlin.   And, the return of senior Alizae Neville from an early injury.   And last, but not least, our defensive specialist Erica Whitmire.  No team can win without outstanding bench play and we have that all the way through our roster.    After a devastating loss to DSA, we had a very serious series of "meetings" with key players and a deep reaching team meeting.   We decided it was time to come together and play to our full potential.   I am so proud of how these girls responded and it translated to an 8-1 conference record.   We came into last night's game tied for the first palce spot with Warren County.   We jumped out to an early lead and went into the half 10 points up.   Warren County came out of the half on fire and we found ourselves in a tied ball game early in the third quarter.   We made the adjustments to the Warren County attack and never looked back.   This was the most complete game this team has played all year.   The Warren County team is the best we have seen all year and we took everything they threw at us.   Anna Vann lead the way in scoring with 29 points, Zae Neville added 14, Taylor Medlin had 11, Michelle Stewart had 8, Abbi Carpenter with 6 and Erica Whitmire and Reuana Robinson each had 2.   Rebounding was key in the victory with Abbi leading the way with 11.   We continue to cut the turnovers down and the assists continue to incease.   This makes this coach very happy.   This part of the stats needs to continue to improve if we plan to be successful in the state playoffs.   We finished this one with a 72-61 win.   Our next game is Friday night at 6:00pm with Southern Vance coming to the Hive.   Please come out and support us as we continue this incredible season."

Post game comments from Roanoke Rapids head coach Tyler Snyder, "We were down the entire game until the final minute. This was not our best performance but it showed each of them that they have each other's back. I challenged them to rebound at half time and the boys did a job of executing. I did offensive and defensive substitutions and when got the lead we finished."
