Jacket wrestlers season still looking up

Roanoke Rapids Wrestling Team, will travel to Lexington, Tuesday 01-31-17, as the #5 team in the East and will wrestle the #4 team Lexington from the Mid-East region.

The winner will wrestle the winner of #1 seed Washington or #8 seed Salisbury, in the first and second round of the NCHSAA State Duals.

The Jackets wrestled this past weekend in the Northern Carolina Conference Wrestling Tournament where the following teams placed.

1st place Franklinton with 156 points

2nd place Roanoke Rapids with 127.5

3rd place Durham School of the Arts 103.

4th place South Granville with 101.5

5th place Bunn with 100.5

6th place NC School of Science and Math with 99.5 and

7th place Southern Vance with 23.

The following wrestlers were named All Conference 

195 lbs. Matthew Norton and 285 lbs. Antonio Lawrence. 

The following are their place.

106 Harry Crawford 2nd. 

113 Shamar Cogdell 3rd.

120 Ethan Dixon 3rd.

126 Jacob Bouchard 4th. 

132 Christian Doisey 2nd.

138 Aaron Purser 4th.

170 Robert Weber 3rd. 

182 Nathan Dixon 2nd.

195 Matthew Norton 1st.

220 Christopher Rogers 4th.

285 Antonio Lawrence 2nd.

Roanoke Rapids head coach DA White stated, "The kids have worked hard this season to make the State Duals. I'm proud of what they have accomplished. When you look at the weight classes seven of the thirteen weight classes are first year wrestlers. At the completion of this week state duals, we will compete in the Regionals next weekend Friday and Saturday. "
