Bomb threats at Northampton County High School and Gaston Elementary School this morning said “people were going to be killed,” Sheriff Jack Smith said

The threats were made around 5 a.m.
The multiple threats delayed the opening of both schools until authorities made sure the buildings were safe. Students and staff were allowed in by mid-morning.
Four explosives dogs, including Pocock and his handler Sergeant Daniel Jenkins of the Roanoke Rapids Police Department, were deployed. Two came from the Virginia State Police and the other from Petersburg, Smith said.
As of this point detectives are investigating the source of the threats, Smith said.
