Few details are immediately forthcoming following the shooting deaths of two people in the Pendleton area Saturday night.

Northampton County Sheriff Jack Smith said investigators are waiting to talk with a female victim who was seriously injured during the matter, which the sheriff's office responded to shortly before 11:30 p.m.

The sheriff's office responded to Horne Road off Highway 35 just outside Pendleton.

Captain Courtney Williams said in a statement when deputies arrived they found several people injured. Both Kyle Daye, 45, of Murfreesboro, and Curtis Barnes Jr., 43, of Raleigh, died from what Williams said in the statement were gunshot wounds.

Asked the circumstances surrounding the shooting, Smith, “We don't know for sure. We can't interview her (the female victim) because of her injuries. Hopefully (when investigators are able to talk to her) then we'll get a lot better understanding.”

Smith said the female victim while sustaining severe injuries, is expected to survive.

He refrained from immediately calling the shooting a homicide and declined to say whether there are any suspect descriptions.

Smith said investigators believe the possible weapon used was a handgun.

In the statement, Smith said Northampton County Emergency Services, the Jackson Police Department and Conway-Severn Rescue Squad responded and assisted along with deputies and investigators.

Anyone with information is encouraged to call the sheriff's office at 252-534-2611.
