A Roanoke Avenue business owner was arrested on marijuana trafficking counts today following a tip from Wilson police.

More than 11 pounds of marijuana was sent to Urban Inc., which is located in the 900 block of Roanoke Avenue.

City County Drug Task Force Agent D.J. Hundley declined elaboration on whether there have been complaints from the business in the past and also declined to elaborate on where the package was originally shipped from.

Hundley did confirm information contained in a statement on the matter by Roanoke Rapids Police Chief Chuck Hasty investigation continues to determine whether any more packages of this sort have been received at the business. Hundley confirmed his continuing investigation would also try to determine whether drugs were sold from the store.

Hundley charged the business's owner, Gary Williams, 41, with trafficking marijuana, felony possession of marijuana, possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana, maintaining a dwelling or vehicle for controlled substance and possession of marijuana paraphernalia.

Captain A.M. Harris of the task force declined to comment on what company shipped the package. There is a FedEx shipping center located in Wilson.

In the statement, Hasty said, “Through the efforts of the City County Drug Task Force and the patrol division of the Roanoke Rapids Police Department the package was delivered at approximately 1:24 p.m.”

Hasty said a search warrant was executed at the business where marijuana was seized along with items of marijuana paraphernalia.

Halifax County Sheriff’s Office Corporal J. Bozard with his dog, Fino, assisted during the search.

Williams received a $35,000 bond with a July 27 court date.
