Students lined the hallways and cheered this morning at Belmont Elementary for one of their own.

Roanoke Rapids Interim Superintendent John Parker and Human Resources Director Lowell Rogers named Jeanne LaChance as the district's 2016 Teacher Ambassador of the Year.
LaChance, a first grade teacher, will go on to represent the district in the regional Teacher of the Year competition.
LaChance has been with the district for nine years and encourages her students to, "find their awesomeness"
LaChance, who raised a special needs daughter and went back to college after the passing of her husband, said, "I teach because I want every child to excel. Despite the challenges they may face, every child can succeed and find their uniqueness in the world."
