Even with severe weather, one recognition went on as planned Wednesday night at Hoyle field.

The Roanoke Rapids High School women's soccer team was scheduled to celebrate Senior night Wednesday in their game versus Franklinton, but the severe weather postponed the game just one minute in, It did not dampen the recognition of one special senior as the game was postponed.  Taylor Marie Vaughan who passed away in a watercraft accident June 10, 2009 was a classmate and former teammate of the members of the class of 2016.  Vaughan grew up playing soccer with the Roanoke Valley Sidekicks, where she excelled on the soccer field and developed a passion for the sport.  Although Taylor was taken away far too soon, her family has continued to support RRHS women's soccer, especially Taylor's former friends and teammates.

In appreciation and respect for Taylor and her family, Taylor was honored by the senior members of the RRHS women's soccer team with a #16 yellow jackets jersey as well as a senior plaque that was presented to Vaughan's mother Lisa Norwood and family.

Yellow Jackets head Coach Craig Jean stated, "I am glad that Curt and other family members were able to make it tonight.  Even though I did not know Taylor personally, I can tell from hearing my players talk about her, how much they cared for her and how much she loved soccer.  I am proud of these girls for taking the initiative to organize this recognition. It says a lot about their character as well as Taylor's and the impact she had on their lives."
