Women face charges after task force stop

Two Roanoke Rapids women were arrested Tuesday afternoon on various drug related counts following a traffic stop in the West Tenth area.

City County Drug Task Force Agent D. McKeel said one of the women, Ruby Peterson, 32, reportedly tried to swallow pills he and Agent C. Parker asked her to hand over following the stop, which occurred around 1:30 p.m.

Another woman, Allison Medlin, 30, was also served numerous warrants related to larceny.

The stop led to the discovery of two Oxycodone pills, marijuana, cocaine and paraphernalia during the stop on the parking lot of Speedway.

Deputy S. Coates, Sergeant C. Boden, Sergeant M. Brown and his dog Mallie, all of the Halifax County Sheriff's Office, assisted in the stop.

McKeel arrested and charged Peterson with simple possession of schedule II, felony possession of cocaine, possess drug paraphernalia and resisting a public officer, the last charge associated with her reportedly trying to swallow the drugs. Parker issued Peterson a citation for driving while license revoked.

The task force also charged Medlin with possession of marijuana up to a half-ounce, felony possession of cocaine and possession of drug paraphernalia.

In addition to the drug charges Medlin was served with numerous warrants by Deputy R. Chin of the sheriff's office based on an ongoing investigation.

Those charges include attempt to obtain property by false pretense, uttering a forged endorsement, common law forgery, common law uttering, two counts larceny of chose in action — which is larceny of checks — four counts uttering a forged endorsement, four counts forgery of endorsement, four counts larceny, four counts possess stolen goods and five counts obtain property by false pretense.

Peterson received an $8,000 bond and Medlin received a $13,000 bond. Both received February 26 court dates.
