Woman found on Simmons St. identified

A woman found dead in the area of Simmons and Craig streets has been identified as a 45-year-old Roanoke Rapids resident.

A Roanoke Rapids man is being booked on a charge of felony conceal or fail to report a death in the case of a woman found on the outskirts of the city, Halifax County Sheriff Wes Tripp said.

Northampton seeks info on prowlers

The Northampton County Sheriff's Office Friday responded to Boyd Ivey Road in Jackson about possible prowlers at the residence.

The four people charged in a Tuesday morning break-in in the Seaboard area will face more charges.

Ryland freed after evidence of identity theft

One of the people arrested Tuesday night in the Wilton Cotton murder was freed today after it was discovered that the person believed to be the actual suspect, who is still at large, possibly stole his identity.

Seven now charged in Cotton murder

(Editor's note: This afternoon we were informed by Roanoke Rapids police that Keon Ryland was freed after evidence of identity theft was discovered. Aspects of the story dealing with Desmond King remain correct. The content concerning Ryland has been edited to reflect that he was released and police continue to look for the seventh suspect.)

One man wanted in the Wilton Cotton murder surrendered Tuesday night while the other was taken into custody in rural Nash County and delivered to Halifax County this morning. The one arrested in Nash County was later freed.
