The Roanoke Rapids Police Department is currently looking into a suspicious person who made contact and inappropriate comments to children.

Detective Bobby Martin said sightings of the man, who is white, older and heavyset with a white beard and glasses, occurred in the areas of East Tenth Street and Virginia Avenue and the 1000 block of Carolina Avenue.

The only thing that changed in the description was the type of vehicle he was on, one describing him on a scooter and another on a white, full-size Chevrolet truck with a lift gate.

The man apparently made inappropriate comments of a sexual nature to children.

Martin said the police department is asking that anyone who sees any suspicious vehicle where children or present or sees someone watching children for a long period of time to call 911 and not approach the person.

The sightings of the man have occurred within the last two days, Martin said. “We are putting this out to the public so everyone is aware and can be on the lookout.”

Anyone with information may also call Crimestoppers at 252-583-4444.
