The team of Lauren Fulkerson and Skyler Moore will be attending two national communication events in the fall.

The Halifax County 4-H members earned a bronze medal for their presentation on Foundation Vs. Modern Quarter Style Horses at the state level during the North Carolina 4-H Congress on the campus of North Carolina State University earlier this month.
The medal earned them a spot for two national events, said Ashley Brooks, Halifax County agent for 4-H and youth development.
Their first stop will be at the National Quarter Horse Congress and its communications competition on October 18 in Columbus, Ohio. Then they head to the Eastern National 4-H Horse Roundup in Louisville on November 5 as part of the North Carolina 4-H Communications Team, which is comprised of winners of the state competition.
“It’s huge,” Brooks said today. “There are a lot of teams competing across the state.”
To get to the state competition, Brooks said, involves beginning at the county level and then going to district competition. “To represent the state is a big honor. They started in January. They wrote their presentation, went through several meetings with the content for accuracy and how to present it.”
They worked with judges to get comment and feedback. “They have to practice at home and I require practices they have to attend. I’m very proud of every single one of them,” Brooks said. “It’s tough, public speaking is one of our biggest fears. It’s impressive to me.”

Brooks said she is still awaiting word on whether Audrey Miles, a silver winner at state level, for her presentation on How to Buy a Quarter Horse, will be going to the National Quarter Horse Congress.
Other achievements from the state competition are as follows:
Shannon Miles earned participation recognition for her Careers & Entrepreneurship presentation on Becoming a Veterinarian.
Lynley Liles won a silver medal for her Science & Technology presentation on Fetal Surgery.
The girls participated in the 14-18-year-old category.
