The Roanoke Rapids High School girls tennis team defeated theNortheast Academy Eagles in their first match of the 2022 season, Wednesday August 17, at the T.J. Davis Recreation Center tennis courts.

The Jackets came out ready to play with the top six seeds winning their singles matches 6-0.

#1 Reagan Mitchell defeated Sarah-Kate Ricks 8-4.

#2 Emma Snead defeated Harley Pierce 8-0. #3 Kara Baird defeated Arland Davis 8-3. 

#4 Savannah Medlin defeated Kiersta Flythe 8-0.

#5 Laura Pridgen defeated Lena Taylor 8-2.

#6 Ivy Wells defeated Madison Dallas 8-1.

Following singles play, the Jackets continued picking up wins,sweeping the Eagles in doubles 3-0 to earn the overall victory 9-0.

#1 Baird and Snead defeated Ricks and Pierce   8-2.

#2 Mitchell and Medlin defeated Davis and Taylor 8-2.

#3 Pridgen and Wells defeated Flythe and Dallas 8-1.

Jackets players Natalie Baker and Emily Hantz also picked up wins in exhibition matches. 

“It was a dominate win,” assistant coach Heath Nunn said. “The first match of the season is always tough because practice can only prepare you so much. The experience of playing a match is where you put to the test everything you learn in practice.”

The Jackets (1-0) will face the Eagles (0-1) in their next match Monday, August 22 at 4:00pm in Lasker, NC before the start of conference matches on August 23.
