The tennis courts at TJ Davis Recreation Center were the place to be this last Saturday morning as tennis players from the Roanoke Valley battled in the first annual “Double R Doubles Dare” tennis tournament.
The tournament, organized by Roanoke Rapids High School tennis coach Stevie Harris, was held to raise funds for the upcoming RRHS tennis season. More importantly, Harris wanted local citizens to have the opportunity to share their passion for tennis in a friendly and fun competition.
Doubles partners, Srinivas Pannela and Richard Auka, took home first place trophies in the event. Reagan Mitchell and Heath Nunn placed second in the day’s tournament.
A total of 9 teams participated in the event. Coach Harris shares that he hopes that the tournament “grows bigger and better each year.” He also wishes to thank all of the volunteers and participants for their support.
The RRHS Women's Tennis team starts their season with the first home match on August 16th at 4 pm at the TJ Davis Courts.
