The Roanoke Rapids High School Varsity Lady Yellow Jackets softball team honored former Jackets coach Carleen Goodwin in 2023 home opener.

The Lady Jackets softball field was dedicated to the former Roanoke Rapids softball coach Carleen Goodwin back in October of 2022 and named the Coach Carleen Goodwin Field. Coach Goodwin returned to the field Tuesday night to throw out the first pitch on her named field as the Lady Jackets hosted their first home game of the season.

The Lady Jackets beat the Franklinton Red Rams 20-1. Kalissa Williams went 3 for 4 with a Homerun and 3 RBI's. Natalie Reda went 1 for 2 with a Homerun 2 RBI's. Kaylee Collier went 2 for 2 with 2 RBI's. Janiya Odom went 2 for 2 with 1 RBI. Kaysie Summerlin, Susanna Odom and Madison Jones all went 2 for 4 with 1 RBI each.

Williams earned the win from the circle pitching two innings striking out five batters while Jones pitched one inning with one strikeout and allowing one run.

The Lady Jackets improve to 3-0 overall and 1-0 in the 2A/3A Big East conference.

The Jackets travel to Southern Nash Thursday evening.
