The Roanoke Rapids Parks and Recreation is still accepting applications for Youth Basketball through October 31.

Youth Basketball is for ages 7 to 14, and the department is using RecDesk for the application process.

Recreation Superintendent Thomas Goble said thus far there have been about 62 registrations, but more are expected, as some families wait until the last week to register, according to Parks and Recreation Director Kelly Daughtry.

The number of people who register their children for the program is expected to at least double before registration closes, said Assistant Parks and Recreation Director Ryan Newsome.

It has been a popular program within the department, Goble said. "We have people coming from all around the county, so anybody can sign up for it. We have a lot of kids in different age groups. The instructional league helps build their skills, and they have an option when they turn eight to either go up to Mighty Mites or Mini Mites, depending on gender."

Goble added that since the announcement that RecDesk was live last month, 262 members have signed up. "It's higher than we anticipated, but it's something you feel like its use is going to build."

Daughtry said not all programs have been added to RecDesk yet. "We're putting them on as we go, so for that many people to be signed up already seems really promising."
