George Byron Wilkes, III
George Byron Wilkes III, beloved brother, uncle, and friend, passed away peacefully on October 15th, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of kindness and endless laughter.
Born on February 14th, 1948 to Blonnie Taylor and George B. Wilkes Jr. in Roanoke Rapids, NC, George touched the lives of many throughout his journey.
He is survived by his loving sister, Lowry Wilkes Miller and her husband Dave, who was always a big brother to George, and three cherished nephews and their families, who will forever hold his memory in their hearts.

George was preceded in death by his wife of many years, Toni Wilkes.
George dedicated his professional life to radio and sales, where his warm personality and genuine interest in people made him a beloved figure.
His disc jockey name was “Georgie Porgie” and he ended every signoff with a joyful “Too-Ta-Loo.” He had a remarkable ability to forge friendships instantly, embodying the spirit of camaraderie and connection. He truly never met a stranger.
A proud veteran, George served in the United States Air Force from 1968 to 1972, an experience that shaped his character, sense of duty, and pride in country.
He continued his education at East Carolina University, where he built the foundation for his successful career.
Throughout his life, George called many places home, living in Texas, South Carolina, and North Carolina. Each location contributed to the rich tapestry of his life and the many friendships he cherished.
George will be remembered for his laughter, generosity, and the warmth he brought to every interaction. He was full of love and friendship that will continue to inspire those who knew him.
Join us on Monday, November 11th, as we honor George B. Wilkes III. A reception will be held from 11 AM to 12 PM at Wrenn Funeral Home, located at 1015 West 5th Street, Roanoke Rapids, NC 27870, followed by a military graveside service at noon.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Roanoke Rapids Endowment Fund in memory of George B. Wilkes III, class of 1966.
