Vance Edwin Collins Sr, 89, of Roanoke Rapids, NC, went peacefully to his heavenly home on Friday, October 1st, 2021.

Vance was a native of Roanoke Rapids and was preceded in death by his wife Alice Maxine Collins and parents Joseph and Bettie Shell Collins.

He was also preceded in death by his brother Cecil Collins and sisters Anne Wright and Marie Hux.  

He is survived by his son Dr. Vance Collins Jr (Judy), of Kill Devil Hills, NC and his brother Charles Lee Collins (Lois) of Atlanta, GA and numerous nephews and nieces. 

Vance served in the Korean War in the US Air Force. He was part of the Air Force Jazz band and known for his trumpet playing abilities.

He worked for the US Postal Service as Assistant Postmaster at Roanoke Rapids NC and Postmaster at both Littleton, NC and Weldon, NC.

He was Choir Director for years for both First Christian Church and New Testament Christian Church. In his later years he loved working with the children’s program at First Christian Church.   

The family will receive friends on Monday, October 4th, 2021 from 6:30 PM until 8:00 PM at Wrenn Clarke and Hagan Funeral Home at 1015 W. 5th Street, Roanoke Rapids, NC.   All guests will be required to wear face coverings and social distance.

Graveside services will be held at Cedarwood Cemetery in Roanoke Rapids on Tuesday, October 5th, 2021 at 2 PM.   Minister Bane Angles will be presiding.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to First Christian Church Children’s Program at 836 Roanoke Avenue, Roanoke Rapids, NC 27870.
