Frieda became a United States citizen on April 10, 1951, after her marriage on August 30, 1944 on the island of Curacao, NWI to Navel Lieutenant J.G. George Lewis Hayes, III who preceded her in death on November 10, 2009.

Frieda loved to swim, sew, cook, paint, and fire her own porcelain. Frieda was a great entertainer who loved to plan parties and to gather with her many friends.

Frieda loved to decorate. With her passion for decoration, she learned how to become an interior decorator by first teaching herself and then taking correspondence courses. She later became an interior decorator for Leggett’s in Roanoke Rapids.

She was a Boy Scout leader for her three sons, who all became eagle scouts, and her daughter’s Girl Scout troop who received the Gold Award. For many years, after her retirement, and her children left home, her favorite outdoor activity was to drive her Chris-Craft boat on Lake Gaston with her favorite canine companion Scooter.

Most of all Frieda was devoted to and loved her children and extended family unconditionally.

She is preceded in death by her oldest son, George Lewis Hayes, IV. She is survived by her children, Robert F. Hayes and his wife Martha, Frank K. Hayes and his wife Katrina, and Rie H. Boone and her significant other Lloyd C. Smith, Jr.

She is also survived by her grandchildren, George Lewis Hayes V, Patrick Creighton Hayes, Robert R. Hayes and his wife Stephanie, Erin Lugo and her significant other David Moore, Jeff Cotten and his wife Marianna, Heather Cox, and Hayes Boone.

She was blessed to be survived by her great grandchildren, Tanner Herring, Ava Quinn Lugo, and Warren Cotten.

She is also survived by her best friend of 55 years, Barbara Mann, and her newest grand dog Bruce.

The service will be private. The family requests that contributions be made in her name to Angels Closet Foundation, 228 Huntingridge Road, Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina, 27870. If anyone wishes to donate flowers, at Frieda’s request, the family asks that flowers be donated to elderly individuals who are without close family or friends in area nursing homes.

Frieda will be greatly missed by her children, her extended family, and her many friends.
