Charles Eugene “Gene” Rawlings, 93, of Roanoke Rapids, NC, died February 13, 2021, at Liberty Commons Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Weldon, NC. 

Graveside services will be held Wednesday, February 17, 2:00 p. m., at Cedarwood Cemetery, Roanoke Rapids, NC, with the Rev. Sue Owens officiating.  

Although a formal visitation is not planned, visits will be received beginning Tuesday, February 16, 2021, at Wrenn, Clarke & Hagan Funeral Home, 1015 West 5th Street, Roanoke Rapids, NC. 

Mr. Rawlings attended Louisburg College, Louisburg, NC, and North Carolina State University, Raleigh, NC.  

Mr. Rawlings served as a member of the National Guard in  the 1950s and as a Roanoke Rapids City Councilman in the 1970s.  

In later years, he was a faithful member of Rosemary United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Men of RUMC, Roanoke Rapids.  

Mr. Rawlings was a retired cost accountant with J. P. Stevens, Inc., both in Roanoke Rapids and Wagram, NC.

Mr. Rawlings was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 64 years, Josie Johnson Rawlings; father, R. F. Rawlings, Sr.; mother, Ione Mills Rawlings; sisters, Ms. Marion Edwards of Roanoke Rapids, and Ms. Pat McAdams of Durham, NC.      

Mr. Rawlings is survived by nephew, R. F. “Robin” Rawlings III of Shawboro, NC;  niece, Ms. Susan Edwards of Roanoke Rapids; cousins, Ms. Marcia Royal, and Mr. Beverly Hilliard, both of Roanoke Rapids; and brother-in-law, Charlie Johnson of Littleton, NC.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Rosemary United Methodist Church, 900 Jackson Street, Roanoke Rapids, NC 27870.

Wrenn, Clarke & Hagan Funeral Home, 1015 West 5th St., Roanoke Rapids, NC, is in charge of services.
