Martha Ann Barnes, 79, died Thursday, July 9, 2020 at Signature HeathCare of Roanoke Rapids.

Ann was born on August 5, 1940 to Annie Bell and Russell James Barnes.  

She graduated from Roanoke Rapids High School in 1958 and attended the former King's Business College in Raleigh until she was offered a banking position in Raleigh.  

Ann returned home to Roanoke Rapids and married Henry Granger Barnes on May 1, 1960.  Ann worked in the field of banking until the birth of her second daughter.  

She was a devoted mother to her daughters, shuttling them to and from dance, piano and tennis lessons, leading Brownie and Girl Scout Troops, chaperoning school and band competition trips.

Ann was predeceased by her parents, the love of her life Granger, her brother Dallas James Barnes and her son-in-law Brian Keith Blanchard.

Ann is survived by her daughter Lisa Barnes Vincent and husband Edward and her daughter Wanda Barnes Blanchard; grandchildren Phillip Johnson and fiancée Ashley, Daniel James Harris and wife Casey, Chris Johnson and wife Kelley, Blake Moseley and husband Anthony, Justin Vincent and wife Olivia, Ashley Blanchard and fiancée Markus Chappell and 11 precious great-grandchildren, one of whom was born the day before she died.  

She is also survived by her brother Thomas Barnes and wife Glenda; sister-in-law Gay Underwood Barnes; her special sister-in-law Shirley Barnes Shaw and husband Fred; brother-in-law Donald Barnes numerous nieces and nephews of both she and Granger that were all so special to her; and two special life-long friends Louise Klouda and David Birdsong.

A graveside service will be held at Cedarwood Cemetery on Monday, July 13, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Steve McElroy and Rev. Randy Martin officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Rosemary United Methodist Church, 900 Jackson Street, Roanoke Rapids, NC, where Ann attended as a child and adult, was married and taught Sunday School.
