WILLIAM GRAY LONG

Bill was born in 1927 and raised on his beloved family farm, “Longview,” in Garysburg, North Carolina.  

He died there on May 17, 2020.  

Bill was the son of Willie Jones and Caroline Moncure Long. He graduated from Virginia Episcopal School in Lynchburg, VA and attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he was a member of the Zeta Psi fraternity.

He was married to the love of his life, Mildred Edmunds, for over 68 years, and they raised six girls together. Bill lived a full life as a farmer, and in retirement at Longview was often heard to say, “I love this land.” His legacy is a deep love and commitment to Jesus Christ, to his beloved wife Mildred, and to his family.

His children are: Elizabeth Terry Long, Richmond, VA; Mildred Long Hurley (Matt), Grosse Pointe, MI; Caroline Moncure Long, Garysburg, NC; Jane Easley Long Brown (Joe), Garysburg, NC; Betty Mason Long Martin (Tony), Roanoke Rapids, NC; and Katherine Stockton “Duna” Long, Garysburg, NC.  He is also survived by ten grand-children and four great grandchildren.

Due to the COVID-19 restrictions, a private family service was held.
