Betty Ray Rountree Cook, 82, died at Signature HealthCARE in Roanoke Rapids on Saturday, April 11, 2026. 

She was the daughter of the late Wallace and Ethel Webb Rountree. 

She graduated from Roanoke Rapids High School in the Class of 1962.  

She was employed by Roanoke Clinic and Halifax Regional for over 40 years. In retirement, she loved spending time with her grandchildren, the beach, and reading.

She is survived by her husband of 64 years James W. Cook, Jr.; son, James W. “J.W.” Cook, III (Robin); daughter, Dianne Cook Moseley (Robert); her grandchildren, Samuel Allen Moseley (Elizabeth), and Dr. Mary E. Moseley; her great grandchildren, Sadie and Sawyer Moseley. She is also survived by Mike Coker (Rosa) and Dallas Coker, (Lynn) who were like children to her and held a special place in her heart; as well as their children and grandchildren; Michael Ray (Kristen), Jeffrey (Kate), Chris (Lauren), Christina Coker and Nicholas Coker along with six great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, at 1 pm at Wrenn Funeral Home. A Graveside Service will follow at Cedarwood Cemetery at 2 pm with Rev. Mark Franklin officiating.
